Chelsea held negotiations over a deal to land Bruno Fernandes from Sporting earlier on in the year, with the attacking midfielder establishing himself as a stunning talent in Liga NOS.
The star is a prized asset for Sporting, but amid an extremely concerning period for the club, it seems a transfer away for Bruno is nothing more than an inevitability at this stage.
According to states from Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, Bruno has submitted his resignation from the Portuguese club, requesting that his deal is rescinded.
This comes as a result of increased tension at Sporting, who have seen their fans turn against several members of the club’s senior team.
Fernandes, along with Gelson Martins and William Carvalho, are stated to have requested the termination of their contracts at Sporting, putting a host of clubs on red alert.
Considered as one of Sporting’s most important players, Fernandes could walk away from the Liga NOS club on a free transfer, as the chaos at Estádio José Alvalade continues.
Chelsea wouldn’t have been interested in paying the full extent of Fernandes’ £87m exit clause at Sporting but with the possibility of a free transfer presenting itself, a summer switch may not be beyond the realms of possibility.
