Chelsea Told to Pay £35m For Premier League Defender

Middlesbrough have warned Chelsea and Everton to pay £35m for 23-year-old defender Ben Gibson, according to The Mirror reports.

Since the promotion to Premier League Boro have impressed defensively in their first season at English top tier as Karanka’s men have conceded only 15 goals.

Antonio Barragan and Calum Chambers who has joined the club on loan from Arsenal have been big parts of that defence, However, the 23-year-old defender Ben Gibson has stolen the show and attracted interest from Everton and Chelsea,

The  6ft 1in central defender has racked up more than 100 appearances for Boro, and his performances this season have put him in contention for a call-up to the England national team under former Boro boss Gareth Southgate.

Chelsea and Everton are interested in signing Gibson, with both clubs seeking to strengthen their defensive end in the middle of the 2016/17 and Gibson could be an answer to their problems.

Chelsea have converted to a back three under Antonio Conte, and with John Terry now is 36 the Blues are believed to be keen on to add youth to their ranks, while, Everton are seeking a replacement for 32-year-old defender Ashley Williams and 34-year-old Phil Jagielka
