Liverpool keen on 22-year-old Liga NOS versatile defender

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old Benfica full-back Alex Grimaldo, according to the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola.

The young left-back has a €60 million release (buy-out) clause in his deal and after watching him in the latest weeks, the Reds are interested in bringing Grimaldo to the Premier League, though at a much lower cost.

Spain U21 international plays mainly as a left full-back, meaning if Alex is to make the switch to Anfield, he will be in direct rivalry with in-form Andy Robertson, with Spaniard Alberto Moreno likely moving on.

It is reported that Liverpool may make an offer lower than his €60 million exit sum in an attempt to understand how much the Liga NOS giants want Alex Grimaldo to stay.

Alex has been tracked by both Manchester United and Manchester City in the past but has never made the switch to England. After impressing extremely in Portugal, this could finally be his opportunity to switch to the Premier League.

This season, in all competitions (Liga NOS, Champions League, Taça de Portugal Placard, Taça CTT, Supertaça), Alex Grimaldo has made 37 appearances, netted 1 goal and provided 5 assists.
