Houssem Aouar will sign a fresh five-year contract with the Ligue 1 giants Lyon, in spite of “strong interest” from Liverpool.
The Algerian-French creative midfielder was an important component in Lyon’s campaign, despite being just 19 years of age.
Making 44 matches in all competitions, the youngster turned in displays worthy of attracting some of Europe’s elite clubs.
One such club, it looks like, was Liverpool. In spite of the headlines being dominated by the Reds’ interest in another Lyon midfielder (Nabil Fekir), Liverpool were also reportedly interested in the prodigy Aouar.
Although, any move for the sensation will have to wait. Promising young talent is Lyon native and has played for his boyhood club since he was 11.
Houssem has appeared in a diversity of roles for the Les Gones this campaign, and Europe’s powerhouses are sure to keep a close eye on the 2018/19 season of the prospect.
The next step poses to be a crucial one for the development of Houssem, who has three appearances for the French U21 team.
This season, in all competitions, Houssem Aouar has made 44 appearances, netted 7 goals and provided 6 assists.
