Arsenal determined to agree deal for Aston Villa’s 29-year-old star

Arsenal have supposedly made contact with the representative of Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho over a possible summer move.

The 29-year-old Brazilian has reignited his senior career on loan at Aston Villa, contributing four goals and three assists in 10 Premier League games under the tutelage of former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

The Villa possess the option to sign him permanently for a fee of €40 million (£33.4 million) this summer, and the South American has seemingly confirmed that he’ll leave Xavi’s Barcelona for good in a few months’ time.

They may face stern competition for the South American’s signature, though, as a Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reports that Mikel Arteta’s side have touched base with the attacking midfielder’s entourage.

The report continues, by stating that Coutinho is not willing to make a definite decision on his long-term future until the end of the term.

But the pull of London and possible UEFA Champions League football could aid the Gunners’ bid to snare him.

Philippe has registered 25 goals and 14 assists in 106 matches for the La Liga outfit, and his present deal at the Camp Nou side is due to run out in the summer of 2023.
