Arsenal are eyeing a swoop for Fabio Vieira and are ready to open talks over a possible deal for the Porto talent, according to reports in Portugal.
The 20-year-old midfielder rose through Porto’s academy ranks to make his senior team debut at the end of last season and is widely considered as one of the finest young talents in the Primeira Liga.
The Portugal youth international has picked up where he left off at the start of this season and his outstanding performances have caught the attention of some of Europe’s teams, including Arsenal and Marseille.
Record claims both sides are ‘positioning themselves’ for Fabio’s signature and are poised to open discussions with the Dragons and the youngster’s camp ahead of the January transfer market.
The report suggests Vieira is unlikely to depart this winter and could even put pen to paper on a new deal at Porto – but the Liga NOS outfit believe interest will only grow for their academy graduate over the coming months.
Both Arsenal and Marseille will be aware that Fabio has a €30 million (£27m) release clause in his current contract.
Mikel Arteta pinpointed Houssem Aouar as his No.1 target in attacking midfield at the start of the summer transfer market but Lyon refused to part with their prized possession, in spite of a number of offers from the Gunners.
The north London outfit have also revived their interest in RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, who was heavily mentioned during Unai Emery’s spell in charge.
