Arsenal are in talks with super-agent Jorge Mendes over a summer move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, according to the latest reports.
The Portugal international is a target for manager Mikel Arteta, who is looking to replace the likes of Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard in his midfield.
The 24-year-old joined Wolves back in 2017 when the club were in the EFL Championship and he arrived having previously captained the Liga NOS giants Porto in the Champions League.
Arteta thinks the Portuguese ace could provide the type of stability in his side’s midfield that is missing behind Thomas Partey and Wolves are understood to be resigned to losing the former Dragons star.
However, the Midlands outfit are seeking around £35 million for Neves and the Gunners deem that fee to be excessive.
Nevertheless, the Sun claim Arsenal are in ‘constant’ dialogue with Jorge over a deal and they remain hopeful of signing Neves in the coming weeks.
Arsenal have already purchased Nuno Tavares from Benfica for a sum of around £7m and Anderlecht’s midfield sensation Albert Sambi Lokonga in a summer deal worth around £17m.
However, Ruben would be a more significant signing and would add be a certainty to start for Arsenal, who finished eighth last term.
