Arsenal in pole position to sign 28-year-old Ivorian defender

Ex-Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier would reportedly consider a move to North London rivals Arsenal. Ivory Coast international only left Tottenham a matter of days ago, with his deal having been terminated at the tail end of the transfer window.

The Spurs supporters would probably have assumed that’d be the last they’d see of Aurier in the PL, but it might not even be the last they’ve seen of him in North London. Serge would entertain an offer from the Gunners, were Arsenal to make an approach to sign him on a free transfer.

The report notes that the Gunners have been approached and made aware of the 28-year-old defender’s intentions to continue playing PL football following his departure from the Spurs.

Whether Arsenal have even the remotest interest in signing him remains to be seen, especially having signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna on transfer Deadline Day. Serge, who is free to join a new club of his choosing, has since been linked with a shock switch across north London.

It’s funny though, though, a footballer who spent four years at Tottenham giving the Gunners a call and expressing his interest. That’s unlikely to go down well among Spurs fans. Spurs allowed the Ivorian defender to walk away after they completed a deal for Barcelona’s Emerson Royal.
