Lyon star Houssem Aouar has sent a clear message to the London giants over his future amid ongoing transfer gossip linking him with a move to Arsenal. Arsenal could undoubtedly benefit from a new addition in the creative midfield department, with the Spanish manager for some reason freezing Mesut Ozil out this campaign.
This looks to have backfired, though in fairness the 32-year-old playmaker has also looked in decline for some time, and top young talent like Houssem could be the perfect long-term successor. Aouar, however, has made his feelings on a transfer perfectly clear in a message that will no doubt come as a blow to London giants.
“I do not see how I could be unhappy in my city, in my club,” said France international. “That is something that I do not understand. I am very happy to be here. I took the decision to stay with the club that formed me I savor every day I have here.”
Gunners have also been linked with Christian Eriksen and Dominik Szoboszlai, who could be fine alternatives to the French midfielder.
Houssem agreed on personal terms with Arsenal but the Gunners saw two bids for the attacker rejected by Lyon sporting director Juninho. Instead, the Spanish manager turned to his other priority midfield target and met the release clause of Thomas Partey to prise him from Atletico Madrid on Deadline Day.
