Former France international midfielder had impressed enough for Ligue 1 giants Marseille to earn a big move in 2000 and three European heavyweights have expressed interest for his signature.
Real Madrid, then managed by Vicente del Bosque also being in the hunt for the Frenchman who ended up with signing for Arsenal.
Serie A giants Juventus were keen too, while Arsene Wenger’s has been personaly negotiating with Frenchman.
And the personal talks with Wenger has convinced legendary midfielder to move to Arsenal.
Pires told Sky Sports: “I had Arsenal, I had Real Madrid, I had Juventus.
“It was great news when I heard Juventus, Real Madrid and Arsenal wanted me but you need to make a decision.
“For me, it was very important to sign for Arsenal because I talked to Arsene Wenger before.
“That was the key factor.”
In his 21-year with Arsenal Wenger has signed host of talents and Pires has been arguably one of the best from the list.
