The Scottish giants Celtic won’t be landing Arsenal young goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo any time soon.
Celtic managed to sign one former Gunners talent before the transfer deadline by snapping up 16-year-old prodigy Armstrong Okoflex – but one of his one-time teammates won’t be following him.
Back in April, the Daily Record reported that the Celts were pursuing a deal for Arsenal ‘keeper Arthur Okonkwo, as he had yet to sign a pro contract with the Gunners.
Okonkwo turned 17 earlier in September and was therefore eligible for a professional contract with Gunners, with RB Leipzig also keeping a close eye on the teenager.
Either side could have attempted to tempt Okonkwo away from the Emirates Stadium, but their hopes have been officially ended in the latest days.
Arsenal have announced on their official website that Arthur has put pen-to-paper on a first professional contract with the club, tying his long-term future to Unai Emery’s side.
That now means that Scottish side won’t be able to lure Okonkwo to Scotland, or if the club did still want to, it would be more of a struggle to prise goalkeeper away from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s management have reportedly held initial talks regarding of a potential transfer swoop for LOSC Lille pacy forward Nicolas Pepe after his stunning recent form.
The French source Le 10 Sport states the Gunners are watching the Ivory Coast international star closely and that they have made contact with both player and the club over a potential future deal.
Pepe looks like a player with a bright future at the highest level and could be a useful addition to this Gunners side, who could do with more variants in the attack.
While Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have only recently joined for huge money, Pepe could perhaps be a perfect upgrade on the likes of Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck, who continue to be senior-team regulars for the Gunners in spite of failing to impress on a consistent basis.
The 23-year-old winger is still young and raw, and it may be worth waiting a bit longer before bringing him in to make the step up to EPL level.
Still, the signs are promising and Gunners fans will be glad to see their days of scouring France for the best young ace are not over just because Arsene Wenger’s left the club.
The Premier League giants Manchester United are eyeing a January swoop for Arsenal creative midfielder Mesut Ozil.
According to the daily national tabloid newspaper The Daily Express, via The BBC, the Red Devils are plotting a swoop for Mesut once the transfer window reopens.
Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is already thinking about ways to bolster his side for the second half of the campaign and is considering Ozil to improve his midfield.
Ozil signed a new deal with Arsenal earlier this year but faces an undetermined future at the club with a lot of speculation over his head.
The Turkish top-flight, Super Lig giants Fenerbahce are also thought to be interested in securing the signature of Mesut Ozil, who will not be short of variants should he decide to depart from the Emirates Stadiums at any point.
Ozil netted in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United this weekend, with Switzerland international Granit Xhaka netting the other goal for the north London giants.
The 29-year-old star retired from international football earlier this year after accusing the German national federation of being racist.
