Arsenal news round-up: No.6 full-back targeted, Gunners holding talks, club activated clause

Arsenal keen on bolstering defensive options by landing Juventus loanee

Premier League club Arsenal are keeping close tabs on the development of young defender Rogerio, according to a report on Sport Witness, who cite Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 20-year-old full-back is currently on loan from Italian giants Juventus to fellow Serie A side Sassuolo and has cemented a senior-team spot for them so far this season.

The Brazilian star is highly-rated in Italy and has put in some impressive displays this season to help Sassuolo to 11th place in the Serie A table.

South American star, who loves to get forward on the left wing, has been heavily linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the latest weeks.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is keen to strengthen his squad and the north London heavyweights don’t have a particularly strong selection of left-backs.

However, the Gunners have extended ageing left-back Nacho Monreal’s deal by one year.  Newcastle United are also said to be keen on signing the Juventus full-back, who turns 21 on Sunday.

This season, in all competitions, the young defender has made 18 appearances and provided one assist for his side thus far.

Arsenal in official talks with representatives of International No.11 winger

Officials from Unai Emery’s Arsenal held a meeting with the agents of Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco yesterday, according to the latest reports.

Carrasco left Premier League giants Atletico Madrid in February of last year to plot a move Chinese side Dalian Yifang, but it’s looking extremely likely that he’ll be transferring away from China less than one year after arriving in the country.

Unai Emery is planning to add to his squad this month and it looks like he’s keen to bring the 25-year-old star to the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners are reportedly going to lodge a bid for him this week.

Carrasco, who became first Belgian player to score in a European Cup final when he netted in a losing effort for Atletico Madrid versus arch-rivals Real Madrid in 2016, is said to be interested in returning to Europe and Arsenal could provide him with the chance to return from Asia.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United seem interested in signing the winger too, but the north London giants will hope to beat them to his signature by acting rapidly.

Arsenal extended £65,000-a-week star deal by further 12 months after triggering clause

The Premier League side Arsenal have exercised an option in the Spanish defender Nacho Monreal’s deal to extend his contract by a further year, the reports say.

According to a sports television channel ESPN, via The Mirror, the Gunners have triggered the extension and Spaniard is now contracted until June of 2020.

His previous contract was due to expire at the end of the campaign, but Unai Emery is keen to keep the compatriot at The Emirates Stadium.

Nacho has struggled with injuries at the time this campaign but has proven himself to be an important player for Arsenal over the years.

The versatile defender has made over 200 matches for Arsenal since joining the club from the La Liga outfit Malaga back in 2012.

In his time at the North London, he has won three Community Shields and three FA Cups, but has not managed to mount a successful trophy challenge.

The report states that one more Gunners full-back, Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner also has a one-year extension written into his contract, but Arsenal’s management are yet to decide on his future.
