Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal could reportedly go head to head in the race to secure services of Napoli long-serving forward Dries Mertens during this upcoming summer transfer window.
The 33-year-old signed a new contract with the Serie A giants last June, and he has been a regular during the 2020-21 season, playing 30 games in all competitions, founding back of the net nine times and provided eight assists in the process.
However, according to Voetbal 24, the Serie A heavyweights are keen to make a move Belgian forward off their wage bill this summer.
The report claims that North London giants the Spurs and the Gunners are both interested in recruiting the Belgium international to the Premier League in the upcoming transfer market.
Mertens has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 21 Serie A appearances this term, however, he has struggled with an ankle problem during stages of the season.
The Belgian attacker has managed to found back of the net 134 times and provided 86 assists in 352 appearances for Napoli since joining the team from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven back in 2013.
Tottenham and Arsenal are also both planning move for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons.
