Arsenal ready to listen offers for French box-to-box midfielder

Matteo Guendouzi is not expected to feature for Arsenal again as the board prepare to offload him for £25m in the summer, Football Insider can reveal.

The 21-year-old midfielder is on a season-long loan at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin after plummeting down the pecking order at the Emirates.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear Matteo is not part of his plans for next campaign.

That is regardless of how he performs in the German top-flight, where he has been a mainstay of Hertha’s starting XI.

Arsenal set a £30 million price tag on Guendouzi last year after he was frozen out of their team following a fall-out with the Spaniard. That price has now been slashed to £25 million.

It could conceivably tumble even further this summer, when the French ace enters the final 12 months of his deal.

But the north London heavyweights are confident they will find a buyer at close to the aforementioned asking price.

La Liga outfit Villarreal offered a £30 million loan-to-buy offer in 2020 but a deal eventually collapsed.

Mikel and senior Arsenal figures left fuming with Matteo after he was embroiled in a scuffle with Brighton’s Neal Maupay following their 2-1 defeat to the Seagulls last June.

Matteo has made 82 appearances for the London-based giants, including 34 in the 2019-20 season.

At Herta, he has made 14 top-flight starts among 18 appearances in the division after being unavailable at the start of the season.
