Arsenal are demanding €40m for Nuno Tavares after Atalanta showed an interest in signing the defender. The move may be to ward off suitors and price out any possible teams seeking to add the left-back, particularly La Dea.
U21 Portugal international came under scrutiny for some of his displays last campaign. Signed from Benfica for a small figure of over €7m, Tavares has proven he has the talent. A few error-prone performances may have come to cost the Gunners a few points in the table, but Nuno did rake in many minutes during the season.
However, in the short term, Mikel Arteta may need to send him out on loan to gain valuable experience. This could lead to a similar strategy the Gunners took with Saliba, which helped the 22-year-old defender gain tremendous experience with a top team in France.
With Atalanta showing an interest in the Portuguese left-back, the Gunners are forced to think about the possibility of sending the footballer to Italy. Recent reports claimed that La Dea are looking to add the defender on loan with an option to buy the Portuguese next summer.
But the Gunners are reportedly keen on only sending Nuno out on a dry loan. If the pressure increases, the Gunners could consider a permanent transfer, but suitors will have to pay a huge price. That is because Arsenal have slapped a €40m price tag on the defender amid Atalanta’s interest in Nuno Tavares.
