Bayern Munich coach Hans Flick believes that Thiago Alcantara is keen on a move to the Premier League.
The Spanish midfielder has been heavily linked with the Reds in recent weeks with reports having suggested the 29-year-old wants to join Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s Champions League last-16 ultimatum with Chelsea on Saturday, Flick said he understands why Thiago wants to try his hand in England and hinted that the player would like to join up with Jurgen Klopp’s outfit although explained that it would be a shame to see him go.
The German boss told Sport1 (as cited by the Mirror): “I can understand when a player is concerned
“Thiago played in Spain for FC Barcelona and in the Bundesliga for FC Bayern Munich.
“If he wants to try again in the Premier League now, I totally understand”
“But it would be a shame because Thiago gives our game that certain something.
“That’s why I would like to have him as a coach on the team for the next few years, but that’s life. It would go on.”
On whether this has provided Thiago with extra motivation to win the Champions League before he potentially departs, Flick added: “I have this feeling with every single member of the team.
“After [winning] the double, everyone is really hot and motivated to hit everything in them again in the next few weeks.”
The boss was also asked if he has thought about any potential replacements for the 29-year-old if he is to depart.
Flick said: “I’ll discuss the squad planning with Hasan Salihamidzic and his team. We are in close contact.
“Currently the focus is only on the Champions League. I therefore do not want to submit any water level reports.”
