According to reports from football news website Goal.com, Celtic are leading the race to land Pedro Chirivella from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The Spanish star looked set to join the Norwegian side Rosenborg after Liverpool agreed on a £2.4 million deal last week, including £1.1 million in add-ons, but the 21-year-old star opted against joining them.
He is now interested in joining Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, and the Bhoys are in the driving seat for his signature. Celtic are still free to land Chirivella, as their transfer window hasn’t closed, and the possible move excites the Spaniard.
The report states that Championship sides Nottingham Forest and Swansea City had also expressed an interest in Chirivella, but the midfielder wants to be reunited with his one-time boss.
Rodgers gave him his professional debut for the Reds in a Europa League tie at Bordeaux in September 2015 and could be looking to include Chirivella in his star studded squad.
The highly rated talent would add creativity in the attacking department and would bring in plenty of quality and depth to Celtic’s midfield as well.
