Chelsea and Man United are reportedly both interested in a possible transfer move for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo amid doubts over his long-term future at the club. The two PL clubs are said to have made Ronald aware of their interest and of quite how far they’d be willing to go to lure him away from his current club.
This comes as Ronald’s deal situation continues to be a bit of a problem for the Blaugrana, with the defender’s current contract due to expire at the end of the next campaign. The Blaugrana’s financial issues mean they may have to offload other footballers before they can realistically afford to give the Uruguayan defender the kind of deal he’s likely to be looking for.
All in all, this sounds pretty positive for Man United and Chelsea, who could both do with bolstering in defence at the moment. At Theatre of Dreams, it’s been a poor campaign for the likes of Maguire and Lindelof, while even Varane has been a bit slow to settle, partly due to injury problems.
The Blues, meanwhile, could do well to plan for finding replacements for the likes of Rudiger, Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, with all three footballers set to be out of the deal at the end of the campaign.
