Chelsea eyeing move for World-Class No.3 French defender

Both Newcastle United and Leicester City have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Everton defender Lucas Digne, according to the reports.

The French defender has been left out of the previous two matchday teams, and he has been strongly linked with a switch away from Goodison Park in January.

A rift between him and Rafael Benitez over tactics has been reported, and a transfer to another team could be needed in order for the 28-year-old full-back to get game time.

According to The Mirror, the Magpies and the Foxes are both interested in securing the services of the Frenchman next month in a bid to bolster their defensive options.

They are not the only clubs hoping to secure the services of the experienced full-back though, as the Blues have been linked with him following Ben Chilwell’s injury problems, while the Eagles are also keeping tabs on the situation.

The Merseyside Blues will next be in action on Boxing Day when they travel to face Burnley, however, it remains to be seen whether or not Lucas Digne will play for the first time since the Merseyside Derby at the start of the month.
