Chelsea in advanced talks with €35m-rated Serie A midfielder

Chelsea are preparing an offer for Milan player Ismael Bennacer as they are currently short of options in the midfield department as things stand. Algeria international has been a key part of the Rossoneri renaissance, which has taken place under the tutelage of Stefano Pioli.

Milan lifted the Serie A title last campaign after a gap of 11 years, and Ismael’s role in that project has been pretty substantial. Bennacer appeared 31 times in the Italian top flight last term and has been involved in all the games so far this term.

The 24-year-old midfielder’s current contract runs out in 2024, and a renewal offer has already been rejected by his entourage. The Algerian midfielder has been looking for a significant pay rise over his current salary. The Algerian currently pockets in the region of €1.7m and has demanded at least €4m to put pen to paper on a new contract.

The Rossoneri’s loss could be Chelsea’s gain. But the Blues need to act quickly as they might lose the chance to land one of their priority transfer targets. The Blues currently have a plethora of midfielders, but an injury to Kante has disrupted their plans this campaign, with the French midfielder also linked with several Serie A teams.

Also, Jorginho’s contract is up for expiry at the end of the current campaign, and the Italian midfielder has not been offered an extension as of now. Graham Potter would be looking for footballers who fit his mould, and the African midfielder offers that quality.
