Chelsea join the race to sign Ligue 1 African versatile midfielder

Chelsea are involved in signing Nice footballer Jean Seri, as are Premier League rivals Manchester City and Everton.

Nice ace Jean Michael Seri has attracted a wide variety of interest after his proposed transfer to Barcelona failed earlier this year during the summer transfer window.

The Ivorian midfielder was a crucial part of Nice’s progress in Ligue 1 last term and he came very close to joining Barcelona off the end of that.

The 26-year-old was the driving power behind Nice’s excellent 2016-17 season in Ligue 1 and has continued his superb style this term, even as his team-mates have struggled. The club is now on sixth place in the positions and finished third last term.

Seri appeared in France in 2015 and soon proved himself as one of Ligue 1’s best assistants. While some reporters made lazy comparisons to N’Golo Kante when considering transfer rumours, Seri plays a lot more like PSG’s ace Marco Verratti, charming with his delivery from a central position.

Barcelona had £35m offer declined for the midfielder who is now ready for just £25m.

Seri was said to be intent on a transfer to La Liga but has also shown his interest in a Premier League move in the past too.

Chelsea want to perform this transfer in next transfer window.

The Blues’s midfield depth has already been examined this term, as Drinkwater has struggled with injuries and summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko has been something of a failure.

Lucien Favre’s men struggled during the opening stages of the season but have seen their form pick up in recent weeks.
