The London giants have a long-standing interest in a potential transfer deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland. However, Chelsea and other teams might have a major issue in pursuing the signing of Norway international his agent Mino Raiola.
Blues could do with a top-class signing up front in the summer, with Erling perhaps ideal to provide an upgrade on the disappointing Timo Werner.
There’s also surely no doubt that Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud don’t have long-term futures at Chelsea at this stage, with Abraham not really looking good enough for a big six club, while Olivier Giroud’s age and status as a backup will surely lead him to look elsewhere for opportunities.
Still, Raiola is not the easiest agent to work with and teams might well be wary of signing the 20-year-old striker because of the man representing him. This might be overly cautious when such a talented footballer is involved, but we’ve seen how distracting he can be for other top players like Paul Pogba at Man United in particular.
Upamecano certainly looks ready to take the next step in his career, via a move to one of the world’s biggest teams, it will be interesting to see how the recent breakout France international star will fare. Interest from Blues in the Frenchman seemed to be kicked up a notch since Thomas Tuchel was appointed as Frank Lampard’s replacement.
