Chelsea keeping tabs on Ligue 1 wonderkid ahead of summer move

Chelsea are interested in signing Saint-Etienne’s Lucas Gourna-Douath, according to the latest reports.

The 17-year-old midfielder is enjoying an impressive breakthrough campaign, having featured in 23 Ligue 1 matches in 2020/21.

He appears comfortable in France’s first division and even starred against Paris Saint-Germain recently.

According to sources in France, the Blues are now weighing up a swoop for Gourna-Douath.

Club scouts have pinpointed the player as a future star in the midfield. The Blues could be tempted to move for the player this summer, too.

It’s thought that Les Verts would accept an offer of £23m for their latest academy product.

While this may seem like a large fee for a young player, Thomas Tuchel’s side could reap the rewards for years to come.

He’d adapt to life in the Premier League swiftly and may become a senior team regular under the German.

However, the English giants will need to beat a host of European clubs for Gourna-Douath’s signature.

The Parisians are firmly in the race to land the youngster. AC Milan and RB Leipzig are the other big clubs that hold interest.

Die Roten Bullen have been known to develop talented players by giving them a platform in the Bundesliga.

The Stamford Bridge outfit will be encouraged by the French club’s long list of talented graduates.

Kurt Zouma started his professional career there before sealing a move to Chelsea in January 2014.

He has gone on to make 139 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.

Wesley Fofana recently left Saint-Etienne for Leicester City in a £30m deal.

He picked up an injury in January but had been enjoying great success in the side’s first team.
