Chelsea leading race to sign 25-year-old Italy international

Graham Potter wants Chelsea to add Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella. With Jorginho and Kante out of contract next summer, the English manager could be looking to reinforce the London giants’ midfield during the next two transfer windows.

Both footballers are now in their thirties, so replacing them in the long-term will be necessary even if a new deal is agreed. Graham Potter wants to bring Italy international to Stamford Bridge. The Blues have ultimately had a disappointing start to the campaign, leading to Thomas Tuchel being sacked and the English coach brought in.

Graham Potter is yet to manage a PL match for his new club, but the midfield issues are still likely to be apparent. The likes of Gallagher have been utilised in a midfield two at times this season, but the Englishman has struggled and was sent off in a match with Leicester City.

Despite spending big in the summer, the Blues failed to sign a new midfielder, except for a deadline day loan move for Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria. The London giants are poised to make a move for Nicolo, who is valued at nearly £55m by the Nerazzurri.

Midfield is an area Chelsea and Graham Potter know they need to bolster, and they intend to do so in the coming months. Defence was the priority in the summer, but now in order for the Blues to return to that elite level it will have to be midfield and the forward line that gets the attention.
