Chelsea news round-up: Englishman makes decision, star to seal Italy return, impressive duo to arrive

£130,000-a-week to depart from Chelsea on free transfer and sign for EPL rivals

England international Gary Cahill is set to depart from Chelsea on a free transfer, with the west London side allowing the former English international to join Fulham, the reports say.

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, the long-serving Blues defender will make the move to the Blues West London rivals on a free transfer.

Maurizio Sarri’s side are allowing Cahill to leave on a free thanks to his seven seasons of service to Chelsea, after joining from English outfit Bolton Wanderers back in 2012.

Fulham initially wanted a loan deal for the central defender but were unable to because of having two loans from other Premier League sides this campaign in Arsenal’s star Calum Chambers and Timothy Fosu Mensah from 20-times Englis champions Manchester United.

Cahill’s professional career at the Blues looks set to end, with the central defender having a long and successful time at West London.

At the Blues, Gary picked up UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League medals, whilst also winning two league trophies with Chelsea. This campaign, the centre-back has made 7 appearances for Chelsea thus far.

Serie A giants will sign £22.5 signing on loan for rest of season from Chelsea

Chelsea full-back Davide Zappacosta is set to join SS Lazio on loan until the end of the campaign, with the option to make the move permanent in the summer transfer market, the reports say.

According to a daily tabloid newspaper The Daily Express, who cite reports emerging in Italy, the Blues have accepted a loan offer, with a £13.5m option to buy.

Zappacosta was purchased as back-up to Victor Moses under Italian manager Antonio Conte but has found himself out of favour under Conte’s compatriot Maurizio Sarri.

Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta is his preferred choice in the right-back position, so the one-time Torino man has found himself with limited game time.

He has started each of the Blues’ Europa League games but has played just 18 minutes in England’s top tier so far this season. The 26-year-old star made 44 appearances for Chelsea, netting on two occasions.

With Davide set to leave, this move could free up space in the team for Chelsea to make a move for Serie A giants Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj, who has been strongly linked with a move to London since Italian tactician’s arrival.

Chelsea reportedly set to complete double raid for talented midfield duo

Chelsea are closing in on the landings of midfield duo Nicolo Barella from Serie A outfit Cagliari and Zenit Saint Petersburg’s key man Leandro Paredes, according to Sky Sports News.

The Blues are hoping to agree on a deal for at least one of the two as early as this week, which could see Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas leave for AS Monaco before the end of the month.

The Spaniard has agreed on a deal to sign with Ligue 1 side when his deal expires at the end of the campaign, but Maurizio Sarri revealed on Monday that it would be best for the star to leave during the January market.

Fabregas is understood to be eager on a move as soon as possible, which would see the former Arsenal player play under club legend Thierry Henry.

However, Chelsea chief executive Marina Granovskaia has blocked the move until the west London heavyweights have agreed a deal for his replacement.

Paredes has been connected with a move to Chelsea for a while and reportedly came close to moving to the Blues following his departure from AS Roma, before deciding to join Russian outfit.

Barella is another who the Blues have been monitoring for some time, and the 21-year-old star could cost the Blues as much as £45 million.
