Chelsea on the brink to agree deal for South American defensive rock

Experienced Brazilian defender Thiago Silva is reportedly likely to sign a new deal with Chelsea in the near future.

Despite turning 37 years of age in September, Silva stays one of the first names on the team sheet, regularly taking his spot at the centre of a back three.

However, there has been constant rumours regarding a potential return to his former club Fluminense, who he represented before making the permanent switch to Europe in 2009.

According to UOL, the veteran is more likely to extend his stay with Thomas Tuchel’s side than return to Brazil in the summer.

The report claims that Thiago Silva wants to boost his chances of representing his country at the next World Cup by continuing to play at the highest level possible.

Silva has played a total of 11 stars and three substitute games in the Premier League and Champions League this campaign.

Meanwhile, Contract talks between Andreas Christensen and Chelsea have allegedly reached an impasse because of a lack of contact between the two sides over the last two months.

The Dane star has been a key figure under the German manager Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, but his existing deal at the west London side is due to expire next summer.

Having failed to reach an agreement over fresh terms thus far, Andreas can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign teams from January 1.

According to Goal, the most recent proposal is a four-year contract including the option of an extra 12 months, but it’d keep the centre-half in line with the lower earners in the roster.
