Chelsea preparing long-term contract for £110,000-a-week playmaker

The London giants are set to offer Jorginho a shock new deal, according to reports. Italy international was strongly linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer But after snubbing Gunners interest to remain put at Stamford Bridge, the Blues could reward him with a new contract.

Jorginho wants to put pen to paper on an updated deal. His current one is worth nearly £110,000-a-week and expires in 2023 Jorginho arrived at London club for £58m in 2018 after rejecting Man City at the last moment. Since then he has racked up 102 Chelsea games and scored 12 goals.

Jorginho made a fine start to the 2020-21 season with Blues first goal of the season with a penalty at Brighton. The ex-Napoli man did miss from the spot in the defeat to the Merseyside club but bounced back with two in four minutes against Crystal Palace before the international break despite Tammy Abraham’s protestations.

Speculation surrounded Jorginho’s future for much of the summer. Jorginho was seen as a possible departure to help finance and facilitate a transfer for Hammers Declan Rice. Juventus was one possible destination until Maurizio Sarri who worked with the ace at Napoli and Blues was sacked and the club replaced Miralem Pjanic with Arthur.
