The London giants could reportedly go back in for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this January and “accelerate” their bid for him if Antonio Rudiger ends up leaving. Chelsea have a bit of a worry in defence right now as Antonio has been one of their most important footballers in that position, though he’s in the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues could cash in on Rudiger in winter in order to avoid losing him on a free next summer, and that would then see them step up their efforts to sign Jules as his replacement. Overall, the Blues fans might well view that as a pretty reasonable outcome, even if it would be a blow to lose Rudiger after his big improvement under the German coach.
The German defender hadn’t been first choice under previous coach Frank Lampard, but he really stepped up his form when Thomas Tuchel took over and played a big part in Chelsea winning the UCL last campaign.
Still, it would be decent business to make money from his sale when he’s so close to being a free agent, and Jules Kounde is a superb young footballer who could make an ideal long-term replacement.
