Chelsea reportedly joined by Italian giants in hunt for long-term target

Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea have a long-standing interest in Italian outfit Juventus central defender Daniele Rugani and tried to land him last season.

However, Juventus refused to sell the Italian defender after they let his compatriot Mattia Caldara move to league rivals AC Milan.

Chelsea are still interested in the Old Lady star but they’ll now face stiff competition for his signature from AS Roma, according to a report.

Football news Italian website Calciomercato.com reports that AS Roma are already planning to make a swoop for the defender in January, but it remains unclear if Juventus will be willing to let Italian move.

However, some good news for Blues and their fans is the fact that the relationship between AS Roma and Juventus is not good at all.

Juventus refused to sell Juan Cuadrado to AS Roma and in return, they decided to block the champions’ move for central midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Chelsea’s defence looks much stronger than many people anticipated at the start of the campaign but strength in depth is needed and Daniele could be the man to provide it.
