Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea are reportedly long-term admirers of Serie A giants AC Milan defender and rumoured Manchester United transfer target, Alessio Romagnoli.
ESPN recently stated the 23-year-old star was a £40 million target for Red Devils to sort out their issues at the back, and Alessio certainly seems to fit the bill as an upgrade on the likes of Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.
However, it looks like the Red Devils may face competition from rivals Blues, who are looking at Romagnoli as a replacement for English star Gary Cahill as he nears a likely exit either in January or at the end of the campaign, according to the Telegraph.
If Cahill is to depart from Stamford Bridge, Romagnoli seems perfect to come in as a long-term replacement for an ageing centre-half who has served the Blues well since joining in 2011/12.
The Italy international defender has impressed in Serie A and may well be prepared to make the step up to a bigger club and a more competitive league.
Now the only question is if Alessio will wind up picking a switch to Manchester or west London.
