Chelsea versatile defender Marcos Alonso has confirmed that he is due to sign a fresh contract with the club in the coming days.
Speaking to Spanish reporters, as quoted by Vaishali Bhardwaj (sports journalist at The Evening Standard), Alonso explains that his side have offered him an extension on his current contract.
“I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea and the club must also be happy with me because, although I still have two years left on my contract, they have offered me an extension.”
“We are talking about it, and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month – in the coming days.”
Alonso has two years remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are interested in securing his long-term future.
The Spaniard has been connected with moves away from Chelsea in the latest months.
La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Barcelona were reportedly interested in landing the player over the summer, but the north London giants’ hierarchy had no intention of selling key man.
