Manchester United’s hierarchy have moved to seal the deal for Bruno Fernandes ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea by scheduling a meeting with the Sporting CP star’s team, according to recent reports.
The Blues sent scouts to watch Bruno in action in January as the 24-year-old star continues to enjoy a brilliant campaign in front of goal. Fernandes has netted 22 goals in 39 games and has laid on 11 assists for his Sporting team-mates.
Portuguese outlet A Bola state the Blues have stolen a march on their league rivals by booking a meeting with Bruno’s agents set to take place this week.
The Lions want to keep Fernandes for another campaign, but an offer between £50 million and £60 million could tempt the Liga NOS outfit to sell.
But the 18-time Portuguese champions are in a great position to negotiate as the player is under contract until June of 2023.
Liverpool have been heavily connected with a move for the talented attacking midfielder but the interest from rival English sides, the Red Devils are said to be in the most advanced position to sign Fernandes.
They are in for an active summer as club chief Ed Woodward plans to appoint a new permanent coach and bring in several fresh legs.
Caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the pole position to become a permanent manager, while the club have been connected with a host of big-money swoops for players including Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.
Bruno would fit the bill as a future key player as he does not turn 25 until September and has quickly improved in the last 24 months.
