Everton keep a close eye on £50,000-a-week Arsenal defender

This morning’s Arsenal transfer news sees speculation over the future of centre-back Calum Chambers. England international has barely featured for Arsenal for some time now and is edging ever closer towards the end of his deal at the London club.

According to reports, Everton are now lining up a bid to sign Calum on the cheap this winter, as they hope the Gunners will accept an offer of nearly £5m. Rafael Benitez is keen to bolster his squad and add more depth at the back but has not been given a huge amount to spend since taking over at Goodison Park.

Calum is not the biggest name or the most exciting target for Everton, but he could do a job as a squad footballer and seems likely to be affordable. One imagines the Gunners will be happy to take the £5m and run, as it’s not bad money from their point of view for a footballer who could leave for free in the summer.

The Spanish manager’s side have shown some improvement in recent times, while Liverpool have suffered a bit of a blip, so it’s not a bad time to be going to Liverpool, provided Aubameyang is available to provide that goal threat he’s so capable of.
