The Merseyside giants have reportedly held negotiations with Franck Kessie about possibly snubbing a new contract offer from Milan to complete a free transfer to Liverpool next summer. The 24-year-old midfielder is in the final year of his deal with the Rossoneri and could be one of the most tempting free agents on the market if he moves next year.
Franck is being targeted by the Reds, who have urged him not to sign a new deal at Milan. This could be a good move by Liverpool, with Ivory Coast international perhaps perfect to come in as a long-term replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, while James Milner is also not getting any younger.
Franck looks like he could adapt well to the pace and physicality of the PL after years of stand-out performances in Italy. The Ivorian midfielder is a superb all-rounder in the Rossoneri’s midfield, and it’s not often footballers as good as he becomes available on free transfers.
It would be a big blow for Milan to lose such a big player for nothing, and one imagines other top teams could join the Reds in the race for his signature. Liverpool are expected to bolster further this transfer window, having already signed Ibrahima Konate, and this sale could help them along the way.
The Reds fans should probably take the rumours with a pinch of salt at this stage, it’s not even clear whether the €8m-a-year deal they have on the table would only be possible if the African midfielder arrived on a free in a year’s time or if they’d also pay those terms alongside a transfer fee to Milan this transfer window.
