Liverpool given green light to sign €20m-rated Liga NOS defender

The German manager is reportedly pushing for his club to beat fellow suitors Real Madrid to the transfer of Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes. Liverpool manager is keen to see off competition for Nuno, with Real Madrid and Leicester City mentioned as possible rivals for the signature of the Portuguese left-back.

Nuno seems a huge prospect at left-back and could be perfect as a long-term successor to Reds Andrew Robertson, who has been a crucial part of how Jurgen Klopp’s side play in recent times. It’s clear that Reds will eventually need to bring in someone to replace Robertson, and Nuno seems a similar attacking threat in that full-back role.

La Liga giants would surely also do well to land the Portugal Under-21 international as a long-term replacement for the aging Marcelo in that area of the pitch. One can only hope the Merseyside giants can do their bit to lure this exciting prospect to the PL in the near future.

The 18-year-old defender could cost nearly €45m, which is his release clause with Sporting. Still, Perr Schuurs himself has now been quoted as shutting down any links with a possible move to Merseyside club as he insists he wants to remain at Ajax.
