Wolves are set to rival Liverpool in the race to add Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Argentina international just signed for the Eagles during the summer transfer window, joining from River Plate.
Fernandez has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in Portugal, and his displays have attracted the interest of teams across Europe. Despite only recently joining the Eagles, he could be on his way out in winter, with Wolverhampton looking to add Enzo in the next transfer window after failing with a bid in the summer.
The Merseyside giants have also previously shown an interest in the South American midfielder, with the Reds are monitoring his progress after he signed for the Primeira Liga giants. It’s no surprise to see the Reds targeting a midfielder after a disappointing start to the campaign.
Many experts and supporters of the Reds have put their inconsistency down to their midfield issues, with the likes of Thiago, Milner, and Henderson now into their thirties and struggling to stay fit.
Even when fit, it’s clear that Milner and Henderson especially aren’t able to produce the levels they did when the Reds were at their peak over the last few campaigns.
Thiago, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain are injured, so Liverpool’s need for a midfielder is acute. Henderson has been partnered by Milner and Harvey Elliott in Jurgen Klopp’s preferred 4-3-3 system in recent weeks, with 17-year-old Bobby Clark the first alternative in the position.
