The battle to add Mikkel Damsgaard in the summer transfer window is intensifying. Barcelona and Real Madrid are ready to go head-to-head in pursuit of Denmark international, who is also a target for the Merseyside club.
Mikkel has the world at his feet in the wake of a stunning campaign at UEFA Euro 2020. One of the standout players in a memorable tournament for Denmark, Damsgaard took the whole of Europe and beyond by storm and is now being pursued by the who’s who of club football in the continent.
Speaking of club level, the Danish winger has been an excellent performer for Sampdoria since arriving from Nordsjaelland last summer. To date, Mikkel has played 37 games for the Italian club, with a return of two goals and four assists to show for his efforts.
His progress has alerted the likes of the Blaugrana, Real Madrid and Liverpool among others. As for the Reds, their interest in Mikkel makes a lot of sense, at a time when the German manager is in the market for backup options for Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in a campaign that will clash with the Africa Cup of Nations.
And with Roberto Firmino and Mane blowing hot and cold the last term, having a solid option like Mikkel can hold the Reds in good stead. As per the report, Mikkel’s valuation is still not set, and Sampdoria could ask anything between €30m and €50m for the Danish attacker.
For now, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and others are simply keeping a close watch on Damsgaard and it will be interesting to see if any of the heavyweights of European football launch the offensive for him anytime soon.
