Liverpool are in negotiations to add Ajax forward Antony ahead of Man United, according to reports in Brazil. Erik ten Hag has urged Man United’s hierarchy to make a move for the 22-year-old attacker this summer but so far the Red Devils have been unable to reach an agreement with the Eredivisie giants.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have already signed Darwin Nunez in a £85m deal from Benfica this summer but are still looking to bolster following the departure of Mane, who moved to Bayern Munich. The report claims that the Reds’ interest is ‘strong’ and a bid of £59m could be enough to reach an agreement with the Dutch club.
It’s understood that Eredivisie giants are demanding a £69m fee for Brazil international off the back of his fantastic displays under Erik ten Hag over the last two campaigns and Man United are unwilling to meet Ajax’s valuation. The Reds have held discussions with both Ajax and the Brazilian winger’s agent over a possible deal this summer.
Earlier this month, Man United branded reports that they submitted a £51m offer for the Brazilian as ‘nonsense’. Man United, however, have convinced Eredivisie giants to sell Lisandro Martinez and a £46m deal has now been agreed for the Argentine defender.
It’s understood that the South American forward is keen on being reunited with Erik ten Hag at Man United, but the Dutch club have the upper hand as they have already sold Haller to Borussia Dortmund and Gravenberch to Bayern Munich, which has put them in a strong financial position.
