Liverpool interested in snapping up highly-rated attacker but face stiff competition

Not only are Arsenal and Manchester United fighting a losing battle with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Premier League, but the two clubs could now face tough competition from the Reds in the transfer market.

According to a Spanish outlet Don Ballon which claims the Merseyside club is one of several sides interested in securing the signature of the technically gifted attacker, Nicolas Pepe.

The LOSC Lille attacker has garnered attention from several European giants after an explosive start to the current season, scoring 12 goals despite playing on the wings or behind a centre-forward.

While the Ivorian star trails Mbappe in the goalscoring chart, the forward sits ahead of more decorated players such as Neymar and Cavani. Liverpool is now the latest club to be connected with the rising Ligue 1 ace.

La Liga giants Real Madrid is another heavyweight eyeing a swoop for the 23-year-old. Pepe won’t come cheap, though, as his club have reportedly slapped a £72 million price tag on him.

While there have been speculations of a January move, LOSC Lille’s owner has stated before that he would not support the idea of selling in the middle of the campaign.
