Liverpool are showing serious interest in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella. Coach Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Italy international and has urged Liverpool’s board to explore the possibility of signing the midfielder.
Nicolo formed an integral part of the Nerazzurri that won the Serie A title in the 2020/21 campaign and remained an important figure for them in the recently-concluded season as well, which saw him score three goals and provide 13 assists in the league.
Barella joined the Nerazzurri permanently in the 2020 summer transfer window after spending a year on loan from Cagliari. The 25-year-old midfielder has since played 135 games for the club, scoring 11 times and assisting 34 goals. Inter, as per the report are unlikely to let the Italian, who still has four years left on his deal, leave this summer.
But Jurgen Klopp wants to sign the Italian footballer at ‘all costs’, and Inter Milan have named their price, €90m. With the Reds recently completing the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a reported fee of €75m, they might not want to invest such a huge sum in another footballer in the same window.
Liverpool have been quite active before the summer transfer window has even opened, having completed three signings already. Darwin Nunez arrived from Benfica, along with playmaker Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and defender Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen. It will be interesting to see if the Reds can succeed in the pursuit of Nicolo Barella or pursue alternatives instead.
