Liverpool keeping close tabs with 20-year-old Spanish winger

Liverpool will have to pay a mammoth €50m in transfer fee to land the services of Athletic forward Nico Williams. U21 Spain international is the latest name to make the cut at San Mames and is enthralling one and all with his displays.

A graduate of the Basque club’s famed youth system, Nico is a right-winger who is steadily making a name for himself in the game. Williams made his senior debut for Athletic in 2021 and has since played 41 games across all tournaments, scoring three goals in the process.

A good dribbler, the 20-year-old winger likes to take on opponents directly and has an eye for making through balls that leave the opposition flat-footed. The Spanish forward’s finishing and composure in the final third leave much to be desired.

However, the Spaniard has the raw potential to make it big in the modern game and could benefit from a coach who can get the best out of him. There are few better than the German manager at doing that, and Nico’s rise has not escaped the Reds, one of the clubs with the best strike rates in the transfer market in recent times.

Liverpool parted ways with Mane earlier this summer, after having brought in Luis Diaz last winter. With Darwin Nunez also brought in, Jurgen Klopp is looking to rebuild a new front three. Liverpool have been following Williams’ progress for a while now but will need to pay his release clause of €50m to land him this summer.
