The Merseyside giants are reportedly lining up a shock transfer raid on rivals Tottenham as Jurgen Klopp eyes up Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The 25-year-old midfielder moved from Southampton to Tottenham in the summer and has started brightly in north London, becoming a hugely important figure for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Spurs have improved this term and could be genuine trophy contenders, with Pierre-Emile playing a big part in their strong form. This now means Liverpool are eyeing up Hojbjerg in a deal potentially worth as much as £81m.
It looks highly unlikely Tottenham would sell Denmark international so soon after signing him, but it does look like the Reds rate him very highly and want him to strengthen their midfield. Liverpool could perhaps do with thinking about bolstering that area as Georginio Wijnaldum is nearing the end of his deal.
On top of that, Fabinho has had to drop back into central defence from midfield this campaign due to the club’s injury crisis. It will be interesting to see how strongly Liverpool pursue this and if Tottenham eventually give in and let an important figure like the Danish midfielder join a rival.
