Liverpool suffer big blow in their pursuit of in-demand pacy winger

Bayer Leverkusen forward and Liverpool target Leon Bailey will not be moving to the English top tier in January after his side put the brakes on any possible deal to sell the player.

Speaking to Bild, as quoted on Goal, the club’s sporting director Jonas Boldt has confirmed that Jamaica international will remain with the Bundesliga side in the new year.

Jonas reveals that the club are anticipating the star moving on in the near future, but they remain confident about keeping hold of talent for the time being.

“We all know that Leon will eventually go, but we have made it clear that a winter change is out of the question, and he also knows that he has our backing.”

Bailey has been heavily connected with a move away from Bayer Leverkusen, with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United all touted as possible suitors to sign the player.

Manchester City and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the past.

The star himself has recently confirmed that he turned down the opportunity to complete a move to Reds earlier in his career.
