Liverpool will not go in search of another central defender in January window

The European and Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are reportedly not expected to pursue any deals to reinforce their defence with some fresh legs in this transfer market, the latest reports say.

According to a sports television channel, ESPN, the Premier League giants are bracing themselves for a quiet January market, in spite of the injury crisis that is developing in defence.

There are fears regarding the fitness of both Croatian star Dejan Lovren and world-class centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who have both sustained injuries recently.

Dejan was forced off throughout the opening stages of the FA Cup defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, while van Dijk himself was forced to sit out of the match.

Fabinho was used as a makeshift centre-back during the game and could feature there going forward. While neither injury is said to be too serious, it has raised doubts over the quality in depth available to German boss Jurgen Klopp.

This led to speculations that the Reds could look to bring in a defender in the January period, but that no longer emerges to be the case.
