Man City keeping tabs on £100,000-a-week Chelsea playmaker

Man City are closely monitoring Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic. Croatia international is facing an uncertain future at the London club ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Kovacic has been a crucial figure for Chelsea in recent years after initially joining on loan from Real Madrid, and it seems like Man City are reviving the interest they showed in the midfielder before he made the move to Stamford Bridge.

Pep Guardiola stays a big fan of Mateo and the Spanish tactician has been alerted to the midfielder’s situation as it looks Chelsea’s owners are keen to avoid footballers going into the final year of their deals.

The Croatian midfielder’s current Chelsea contract expires in 2024, so if the London giants don’t let him go this summer, they face the risk of losing him for nothing just a year later.

This could then present Man City with an attractive situation this summer as Mateo Kovacic could be available on the cheap, and give Pep Guardiola a perfect replacement for Gundogan, who himself is close to becoming a free agent.
