Man United and Barcelona are in negotiations over a potential move in the summer transfer window for Frenkie de Jong. And the Red Devils are confident of securing the services of the 25-year-old midfielder in a deal worth £50m. The Netherlands international has been one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe since his days at Ajax.
After taking Europe by storm during his stint with the Eredivisie giants, the Dutch midfielder joined Barcelona in summer 2019 and has since continued his progress at the Catalan club. The Dutchman has played 140 games for the Blaugrana thus far, chipping in with 13 goals and 17 assists.
But the former Ajax midfielder faces an uncertain future at Barcelona amid their financial distress. And the Blaugrana’s woes could be Mna United’s gain, with Man United hot on the trail of Frenkie. The interest from Man United stems from the departures of Pogba and Matic.
The duo will officially leave the Red Devils in the summer transfer window, leaving a gaping hole in the midfield unit at Theatre of Dreams. De Jong has thus emerged as a viable target for the Red Devils, although the Barcelona midfielder’s stance over joining Man United threatens to put a spanner in the works.
The Dutch midfielder does not want to join the Red Devils as they will not play in the UCL next campaign. But the Red Devils hope to lure him to Man United by offering him a deal worth £395,000 per week.
