Manchester United are prepared to try and hijack Manchester City’s efforts to sign Shakhtar Donetsk central midfielder Fred this summer, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.
Fred has been a crucial player for Shakhtar Donetsk since joining the club from Brazilian sides Internacional in 2013 while Fred is also broken into the Brazilian national squad and is hoping to make the team for the World Cup finals.
The 25-year-old’s impressive performances have caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with the Daily Mirror claiming that Manchester City and Manchester United have both registered their interest.
The newspaper says The Citizens came close to completing a £40m deal throughout the January window but are expected to re-ignite their interest this summer after failing to get the switch over the line.
City are in the transfer market for a defensive midfielder as another Brazilian Fernandinho turns 33 next month whilst Yaya Toure is set to be released and it looks like Pep Guardiola has lined-up Fred as a substitution.
After all, the Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho is ready to attempt and hijack City’s efforts to sign Fred with Manchester United also identifying the South American as a main summer transfer target.
