Man United have emerged as the favourite in the battle to add Goncalo Inacio. The Sporting centre-back is a sought-after prospect in the market, with Newcastle United also involved in the chase. But it appears the Red Devils have taken the lead, as they are weighing up a new offer for Portugal international.
The Lions have no intention to offload their star footballer for any less than the value of his release clause, which stands at nearly €45m. It appears Man United are willing to make an offer of €40m, with the additional €5m to be met by several performance-related add-ons.
A product of the prestigious Sporting academy, Goncalo has been a vital cog in the Portuguese club’s backline since making his breakthrough last campaign. His defensive contributions were critical in helping Sporting break Benfica and Porto’s hegemony over Portuguese football the last term by winning the league title.
A centre-back by trade, Inacio has maintained his form in the current campaign. The 20-year-old centre-back has raised many eyebrows with his firm control over possession, coupled with his qualities in the build-up.
Standing at 1.85, the Portuguese centre-back has the physical stature to make him a rock at the defence while thriving in aerial duels. Despite his impressive displays, the Portuguese is yet to make his debut for the national team. But Goncalo Inacio is hoping a summer move to Man United could change that.
