Manchester United are leading the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan in the race to sign Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, according to a recent report from La Repubblica, as relayed by Calciomercato.
He has racked up 118 appearances for his side, scoring 10 goals. Nikola has missed just one of La Viola’s 20 Serie A games so far this term and has shown great potential in spite of their disappointing start to the campaign.
However, Nikola’s future at the Stadio Artemio Franchi side has become uncertain, with his deal expiring in the summer of next year.
The report states that the 23-year-old won’t be signing a new deal with Fiorentina and is almost certain to leave before the 2021/21 term kicks off.
This has put a number of clubs, including the likes of Rossoneri, Nerazzurri and Biacnoeri on high alert.
However, it is the Red Devils who have emerged as the front-runners to land the 26-time capped Serbia international in the upcoming summer transfer market.
Nonetheless, the injury problems plaguing Eric Bailly and Phil Jones throughout their stints at Old Trafford, coupled with Victor Lindelof’s inconsistencies means the club are looking for another top-class centre-half addition in the next transfer window.
In spite of his contract running out in over a year, the Italians are likely to demand a transfer fee of €35m for the 23-year-old star.
It remains to be seen if the 20-time English champions are willing to offer that much to capture the towering central defender’s signature.
