Newcastle in the hunt to sign 23-year-old Man United defender

Newcastle United interested in signing Man United centre-back Axel Tuanzebe during this summer transfer window. Steve Bruce is desperately trying to push the Magpies hierarchy to move the 23-year-old defender after Joe Willock transfer frustrations.

Breaking the headlines is the news that the Red Devils have secured the services of Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane in a deal believed to be nearly €50m. The talks are in their advanced stages, and the transfer is anticipated to be completed by the end of this week itself.

Raphael’s anticipated arrival clears the door for Axel to depart the Red Devils on a season-long loan to get more regular minutes under his belt, with the Magpies leading the pack.

Tuanzebe has already conveyed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer discern that he’s unhappy with the lack of playing time the English defender’s currently getting at Man United, and it’s crucial for him to get regular game time elsewhere.

The 23-year-old defender is quick, athletic, and a superb 1v1 defender who’s never afraid of making crunch tackles inside his own box. His impressive recovery pace makes him hard to get past. Axel’s got the awareness and positional sense.

Also, he’s very decent at progressing the ball from the defence often skips past the first marker easily with his pace and dribbling to open up spaces for attacking footballers to exploit.

Tuanzebe’s very versatile, can play as a capable full-back, is underrated with the ball at his feet, Axel’s comfortable playing out from the defence, and his pacy recoveries provide the defence with an added cover. Tuanzebe has a similar prototype to his fellow defender Eric Bailly.
